Coaching Staff Changes Strengthen the New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils have officially completed their coaching roster, marking a significant development as they prepare for the upcoming NHL season. The organization announced these changes on Tuesday, with Head Coach Sheldon Keefe bringing Jeremy Colliton on board to solidify the team’s strategic direction.
New Leadership to Bolster Performance
Tom Fitzgerald, the President and General Manager of the Devils, revealed the revamped coaching arrangement, emphasizing the goal of improving the team's performance in the next season. This announcement follows closely on the heels of Keefe's appointment less than three weeks ago. Colliton’s Proven Track Record
Jeremy Colliton arrives with a wealth of experience and a record of success. For the past two seasons, he coached the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL, where the team achieved commendable records and made playoff appearances under his leadership. Prior to that, Colliton was the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, becoming the NHL's youngest head coach at just 33 years old. His tenure with the Blackhawks included a record of 87-92-26 over parts of four seasons.
Colliton’s coaching career also includes leading the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate in Rockford and international experience in Sweden, where he coached in the second league from 2013 to 2017. He notably served as the head coach for Team Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, stepping in for Claude Julien who was sidelined by injury, although the team did not secure a medal.
Playing Experience and Coaching Potential
Before transitioning to coaching, Colliton was a professional ice hockey player. Drafted in the second round of the 2003 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, he played as a center and spent six seasons with the Islanders' organization. His NHL career includes 57 games, during which he scored three goals and three assists.
