The Buffalo Bills Eyeing Corey Davis for Wide Receiver Corps
The Buffalo Bills are exploring the possibility of bolstering their wide receiver unit by adding former New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis. Davis, who retired in August of 2023 at the age of 29, is considering a return to the NFL.
Corey Davis enjoyed a notable career before stepping away from the game. He was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, a testament to his exceptional talent during his collegiate years at Western Michigan. Davis caught 332 passes for an impressive 5,285 yards and 52 touchdowns, setting the record for the most receiving yards in FBS history.
During his tenure with the Tennessee Titans, Davis showcased his skills over four seasons, catching 207 passes for 2,851 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2020, he had one of his standout seasons, recording 65 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns. His performance illustrated his potential to be a game-changing wide receiver.
In 2021, Davis signed a lucrative three-year, $37.5 million deal with the New York Jets. However, his time with the Jets was marred by injuries, limiting him to 22 games over two seasons. Despite the setbacks, he managed 66 receptions for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns with the Jets before deciding to retire. "Stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time," Davis said upon his retirement.
The New York Jets officially released Davis from the reserve/retired list in March, paving the way for other teams to express interest in the seasoned wide receiver. The Buffalo Bills, who have recently lost their two leading receivers from the 2023 season, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, are among the teams considering adding Corey Davis to their roster.
To compensate for the loss of Diggs and Gabe Davis, the Bills have already added Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins, and rookie Keon Coleman to their wide receiver corps. Adding Corey Davis could provide a significant boost to the team’s depth and experience at the position.
